πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄ Norway

Posts from our upcoming trip to Norway in June/July 2026.

Before we found camping in Odda, we came across this beauty of a waterfall-Latefossen. -J πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄

We’ve had many technical challenges with posting during our trip (and we’ve been taking a ton of photos of this gorgeous country!) We appreciate your patience :) We’ll try to keep posting when we can, but the vast majority of the posts will likely be posted upon return. Cheers! -J πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄

We also stopped at the Roldov Stave Church. You can really see the wooden pins used instead of nails. -JπŸ‡³πŸ‡΄

Leaving Stavanger area, we headed northward into the mountains of western Norway. Beautiful! And such diverse landscapes. -J πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄

A serene lake reflects the surrounding lush green hills and distant mountains under a cloudy sky.

After spending the night visiting with our friends, we stopped near Stavanger at Sverd i Fjell, a monument to the Battle of Hafrsfjord in 872 when the king gathered all of Norway under one crown. -JπŸ‡³πŸ‡΄

Took the ferry through the Lysefjord to Lauvvik before driving to our friend’s, Beathe and Erik, house. The ferry went past Pulpit Rock, so we were able to see it, albeit from the water. -J πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄

A serene body of water lies at the base of towering rocky cliffs covered with patches of greenery under a cloudy sky.

Saw some pretty great scenery today! -J πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄

A serene lake is surrounded by rugged rocky hills under a partly cloudy sky.

Visited a UNESCO site today: Rjukan-Nottoden Industriarv: the company town where two men developed a method to extract nitrogen from the air and turn it into fertilizer. The area became the world’s largest hydroelectric power plant. They have a cute town square and many protected buildings. -J πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄

A large outdoor chessboard with oversized pieces is set up on a tiled patio overlooking a grassy area, quaint houses, and forested mountains under a partly cloudy sky.

The Vemork Power Plant in Rjukan, Norway, had the ability to create heavy water, used in nuclear bombs. The Nazis took over this plant when they occupied Norway, but a group of Norwegian Resistance Fighters sabotaged the plant to inhibit Germany’s ability to create nuclear weapons. -J πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄

Norway has 28 stave churches remaining and we visited the Heddal Stave Church, built in the 13th Century. Stave churches are not made with any nails! -J πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄

A large, intricately designed stave church with multiple steep, pointed roofs stands under a clear blue sky surrounded by a grassy area and a cemetery.

Next up: campervanning around Norway! πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄
